Project " Former stone and
wood"
Author George Minchev
"Like
water, gas and electricity come from afar in our home with almost imperceptible
movement of his hand to serve us, so we will be provided with pictures or a
series of tones will appear with a slight movement, almost gesture, and just as
quickly leave us "
Paul Valery
Virtually endless possibilities for technical
reproduction and sharing of images and speed of exchange of this information in
the age of digital technology, bringing new challenges and necessitated some
changes in terms of how a person perceives and interacts with the works of
contemporary visual art. This caused a shift in our understanding of art, a
change in the rules that we use to determine what is and is not art.
The development of digital technology and the
rate of exchange in the field, placed in different from a traditional
understanding of issues relating to the essential characteristics of art.
Issues such as:
How much is reserved correlation between
copy and original in contemporary visual arts in the context of digital
technologies which provide opportunities to reproduce and share the images? How
much the vast amount of content generated by users in the network affects the
professional world of art? How much the modern professional or amateur, is the
author holds rights over ideas in his work? How much the rate of exchange of
media content influences the way in which viewers communicate with art? Is it
vital for art and you do not need it to be such, more time to be contemplated?
"Former stone and wood"
project put in the context of the aforementioned cultural situation in which it
is used "opposite" of digital technology, technology which is
probably known since the dawn of human development. In this project without
oxygen burning materials is a technology used to transform and image
reproduction.
Without oxygen combustion technology is used
in practice in order to change the properties and functions of certain
materials. When applying this type of burning on marble, then changes in the
crystal lattice, limestone it becomes calcium oxide (CaO), known as quicklime.
When this technology is applied to the wood, much of the stored energy through
photosynthesis takes. As a result, burning wood turns into charcoal.
Using the process of oxygen
without combustion in the project define the real opportunities in which two
typical materials: stone, wood, changing its properties and qualities,
transitioning from one state to another. Project explores moments when as a
result of this physical transformation, changing the meaning of the material
and the object. "Former stone and wood" explores moments in
which the subject added simultaneously abandon some of its plastic properties.
Peculiar "prints" made from the
material obtained in consequence of oxygen without burning objects of wood and
stone - stone former and former trees repeat structures built by the ratio:
original - copy pro - amateur idea - property in the context of digital
technologies. In this installation technology without burning oxygen and
rearranging material replaces digital technology to reproduce and share the
images and forces as the author put this work on a topical and exciting way.
Description:
The work may be reproduced, in the following
instruction.
Put directly on the floor of the space in
which they will be exposed installation, a distance of 200 cm from each other two
lime piles, each of which is 5 kg .. With a broom spread lime so as to form two
L-shaped set rectangle with approximate size 350 x 250 cm. On one of the rectangles piled large amounts of charcoal, so as
to draw the symbol for "infinity" (∞ - symbol that marks infinity in
mathematics). On the other rectangle do the same but with lime. The amount of
accumulated material on each of the rectangles is large enough to form a pile
height of about 30 cm all along the painted characters.
Materials: 30 kg charcoal, lime 100 kg (thick
consistency)
